Type 3B Hair
High Density · High Porosity
Type 3B curls are springy, voluminous ringlets with a defined, lively pattern. High density gives you a lot of strands and impressive fullness. High porosity means your cuticle has raised edges or gaps, absorbing moisture very fast but losing it just as quickly. The combination of high density and high porosity means you have a lot of hair that is always thirsty. Dryness can be pervasive, frizz shows across the full volume, and without the right sealing routine the effort of wash day can feel wasted by mid-week. With the right approach though, this hair is absolutely stunning.

How to Grow Your Hair
LOC method through every section
High porosity 3B hair with high density needs moisture sealed in across a large volume of hair. The LOC method is your most reliable approach. Apply liquid, then a cream or lighter oil, then seal with a heavier oil or butter. Work through four to six sections so you cover every strand, not just the surface layer. This takes more time and product than with lower density hair but it is what keeps the moisture in long enough to matter.
Protein every two to three weeks
High porosity cuticles have structural gaps that protein fills temporarily. For high density hair, you will use more product during protein treatments so invest in larger sizes of your preferred treatment. Hydrolysed keratin, silk proteins, and egg-based treatments all strengthen the strand and help it hold moisture longer. Alternate with deep conditioning sessions rather than combining on the same day.
Always finish with cool water
Hot water worsens moisture loss on high porosity hair. A cool rinse after conditioning helps close the cuticle across every strand, reduces frizz across your full volume, and adds noticeable shine to your 3B spirals. It is one of the simplest things you can do and one of the most effective for this combination.
Sectioned scalp massages for full coverage
High density hair makes surface-level scalp massages ineffective. Part your hair and massage each section of the scalp directly with castor oil or a rosemary growth blend. Your many follicles are an asset for growth and keeping all of them stimulated is the key to making the most of what you have. Five minutes total, three to four times a week, every week without skipping.
Handle gently on wash day only
High porosity hair breaks more easily than other types and with high density that breakage is multiplied across thousands of strands. Detangle only on wash day when hair is fully saturated with a slippery conditioner. Work section by section from ends to roots. Between wash days, leave your hair alone as much as possible and protect it in a style that requires no pulling or combing.
Large satin bonnet is essential
High density high porosity hair is the combination that loses the most moisture overnight. A large satin bonnet fully encloses all your hair and is far more effective than a pillowcase for this volume. Pineapple your 3B curls at the crown with your Froband before covering to preserve spiral definition and keep volume lifted at the roots through the night.
Products: What Works and What Does Not

Avoid these
Light oils used without sealing, hot water, heat without protectant, alcohol-based products, skipping protein, applying without sectioning
