Type 3B Hair
High Density · Medium Porosity
Type 3B curls are springy, defined ringlets with a lot of natural volume and energy. High density means you have a generous number of strands giving your hair a full, thick appearance. Medium porosity means your cuticle behaves well, absorbing moisture at a balanced rate and retaining it without too much trouble. This combination is genuinely one of the most workable. You have volume, you have curl definition, and your hair responds reliably to good products and consistent care. The main consideration is managing the sheer amount of hair so every strand stays moisturised and defined.

How to Grow Your Hair
Section your hair for even application
The biggest challenge with high density hair is not getting moisture in — medium porosity handles that well — it is getting products evenly distributed through a large volume of hair. Divide into four to six sections before applying your leave-in, conditioner, and styling products. This ensures every spiral gets coated and defined, rather than just the strands on the surface.
Deep condition every wash day in sections
Medium porosity 3B hair absorbs deep conditioner beautifully. With high density, use a generous amount and apply it section by section so the inner layers of hair get treated as well as the outer ones. Leave on for 20 to 30 minutes. Your curls will emerge noticeably softer, bouncier, and more defined after every session. Make this non-negotiable in your routine.
Clarify regularly to manage volume
With so much hair to care for, product accumulates on the scalp and strands faster than it does with lower density types. Clarify every two to three weeks to keep the scalp clean, follicles unblocked, and your curls free from the weight of residue. Follow with a thorough deep condition to restore what the clarifying shampoo removed.
Full scalp massage coverage
High density hair can make it easy to massage only the top layer of the scalp. Part your hair in sections and massage each area of the scalp directly. Use jojoba or sweet almond oil and work in gentle circular motions for five minutes total. Three to four sessions a week, done consistently, keeps every one of your many follicles stimulated and growing strongly.
Trim regularly to keep your shape
High density 3B hair grows fast and can become heavy and shapeless if left untrimmed. A trim every eight to ten weeks keeps your curl pattern even, your ends healthy, and your overall style intentional. Well-shaped hair also looks more voluminous than hair that has grown in unpredictable directions.
Large satin bonnet every night
High density 3B hair creates a lot of friction against any fabric overnight. A large satin bonnet fully encloses your volume and protects every spiral. Pineapple your curls loosely at the crown with your Froband before covering and you will wake up with preserved spiral definition and manageable volume that is ready to refresh quickly.
Products: What Works and What Does Not
Look for these
Moisturising shampoos, nourishing deep conditioners, medium-weight leave-ins, aloe vera, glycerin, jojoba oil, medium-hold curl creams and gels, occasional light protein
Avoid these
Very heavy butters at the roots, skipping clarifying, applying without sectioning, excessive heat, too much protein too often
